Invest Like a Pro: A 10-Day Investing Course by Jesse Mecham
Why another book on investing? Because you think it’s a lot harder than it actually is. Because investing scares you, and it shouldn’t. Because you should be investing and you aren’t. Because you’re investing incorrectly and it’s costing you a lot of money. Because the average savings of a 50-year old is $43,000.
This book is for you if you want to invest correctly (and enough!), but have zero interest in the complex stuff. This book is also for you if you’re ready to take action.
Once you’ve finished reading this book, you’ll know more than most when it comes to investing. Most importantly, you’ll know exactly what you need to do to invest successfully.
I’m a recovering CPA that started a company called “You Need A Budget” (Y-NAB, if you’re busy) while in college. We teach people my unique Four-Rule Method that completely transforms how they view and manage their money. When people follow the YNAB Method, they break the paycheck to paycheck cycle, get out of debt, and save more money.
I’m not a writer by training (I was trained as a CPA, remember?) so what my writing lacks in polish, it makes up for in personality. Ha!
I love helping people get a grip on their money. I love seeing them make positive changes to their lives that will pay dividends far into the future.
Born and raised in Arizona, I now live in Utah with my beautiful wife (who’s quite the Crossfitter, ask her about it and she’ll tell you everything you ever didn’t want to know), and my five children. When I’m not writing about, speaking on, or doing my own budgeting, I enjoy growing as much food as possible on my little third of an acre in suburbia, lifting heavy weights, and just living life one moment at a time. I am blessed.
Review By J. Larson
I came into this book with a lot of prior knowledge about investing, having already been convinced of boring passive index fund investing. If you fit that description, this book is not for you. Who is it for? If you know you should probably be thinking about investing but just want someone to simply tell you what to do, there aren’t many shorter and simpler resources than this.
Jesse Mecham (found of YNAB, the best budgeting software/system out there) structures this book as a 10 day overview of investing with actionable items each day. There are only a few pages of content each day so you don’t get overwhelmed. If you are confused what the differences are between a 401k, IRA, and mutual fund, Jesse will help set things straight. If you just want it listed out what you should be doing, this is it. If you like to explore topics in depth, this may not be the book for you although it could be a decent primer to spark further study. The recommendations Jesse makes are solid and will put anybody on a better path to investing than what many other resources suggest.
